The Different Bet Types and Payouts in Roulette

Roulette is a game of chance, but skill can help players improve their odds. Understanding the different bet types and their payouts is a good starting point.

Outside bets are a good option for beginners as they offer higher payout rates. However, it is important to understand the risk levels of each bet type.

Origins

There are a number of theories surrounding the origins of roulette. Some say it was first created in China and then spread to other parts of the world by monks who traveled between different regions. Others claim that it was inspired by the Italian board game biribi, which shares some similarities with roulette. And still others argue that it came from a variety of other games, including portique, hoca, bassette and roly poly. But most people agree that the modern version of roulette was invented in France in the 17th century. From there, it spread throughout Europe and then to America as more Europeans immigrated to the United States. One theory about the name is that it was derived from the Latin word for wheel.
