The Basics of Roulette

Roulette is a casino game that relies on luck. But it also requires some skill, especially when placing bets. Players place chips on the table until the croupier says no more bets.

Origins

There are many tales surrounding the origin of roullete, and although it’s difficult to verify these stories, there is general consensus that roulette as we know it first appeared in Paris in 1796. It was then played with a double-zero wheel, similar to that of today’s European Roulette.

Historians believe that the game was invented by French mathematician Blaise Pascal, who developed the concept while attempting to create a perpetual motion machine. However, he failed in his quest and invented the roulette wheel by accident.

Eventually, the game made its way to America as more and more European immigrants arrived. However, the single-zero wheel wasn’t introduced until 1860 in a casino town called Bad Homburg by the Blanc brothers. The new version of the game was more popular than the traditional double-zero wheel and is the one most commonly found today.

Variations

Roulette games come in many variants, with different betting rules and bet types. Some of them also offer different payouts.
