What is Roulette?

When playing roullete, players place chips on a green felt table. Each area of the table corresponds to a different bet type. These bet types can be placed on a single number, small groups of numbers, a color, or even or odd numbers. The dealer gives you time to place your bets before spinning the wheel and dropping the ball.

Origin

Roulette is a game that’s been around for quite some time. Its origin is a bit of a mystery. Various fanciful stories exist about its supposed ancestors, including ones that point to 17th-century French mathematician Blaise Pascal and a Dominican monk.

Most historians, however, believe that the first true version of roulette came into existence in 1655. Blaise Pascal, a renowned French mathematician and physicist, developed the game during a stay at Port Royal-des-Champs monastery as part of his ongoing pursuit for a perpetual motion machine. He soon discovered that the spinning wheel and ball provided a fun way to pass the time. The game took its name from a French word meaning little wheel, and it quickly gained popularity in France. It eventually spread to other parts of Europe and then into the United States, where it became a popular casino game during the California Gold Rush.
